Discovered........

I love the secrets that an old house can tell .........

Honey removed the stop on the door frame that goes to the stairway.  And here, in German is the word "Freppe".  Written in pencil .... in the type of hand-writing that just seems old,  "Freppe"

German for staircase.

And now I know.

I found something like that when we moved into our house - on one of the screen doors is pickup instructions from when it was bought in '63. My husband's grandfather built our house and the door broke shortly after we moved in. I begged Hubby to fix it instead of replacing it.
Isn't it wonderful to find those little treasures. What a wonderful discovery for you and Honey....it ties you to the past in such a physical way.

How fun! The old barn at my parent's farm was previously an old mill somewhere else, was disassembled, hauled by rail and reassembled on the farm in 1876. You can still see, written in German, in chalk, on some of the beams, the reassembly instructions. It's pretty awesome to find history like that.
